Sermon Outline

“Man Overboard!”

Father’s Day

Bishop V. P. Oliver, D.Min.

Jonah 1:12 (1-17)

“Pick me up and throw me into the sea…”

Thesis Statement: Jonah’s rescue is a reminder that God never abandons His men—even when we run.

1. JONAH CONFRONTED THE CAUSE.

  • He disobeyed the command of God.

  • Everything in his life started going down.

  • But Jonah did not lose his character.

  • Godly men don’t run from accountability

2. JONAH CONSIDERED THE COST.

  • Our choices carry weight.

  • Storms don’t stay in one man’s boat.

  • The same is true of righteousness—it spreads.

  • When a father changes course the whole family feels the shift.

3. JONAH COMMITTED TO THE CALL.

  • God sent a fish—not as punishment, but as preservation.

  • God’s call on your life is still alive.

  • God never abandons His men.

  • A father who commits to the call completes the assignment.
